The state of Washington requires you carry auto liability insurance on your vehicles. That is all. So, what does this cover and what are the minimum Washington Auto Insurance requirements? 
Washington requires you carry liability insurance in case you’re at-fault for an accident. This coverage will pay for the damages, up to the policy limits, to the person you injure and the property you damage when you’re at-fault for the accident and are held legally liable.
Washington state auto insurance laws currently require you carry:
- $25,000 per person bodily injury liability
- $50,000 per accident bodily injury liability
- $10,000 property damage liability
So, what do those numbers mean?
The first $25,000 is how much your policy would pay if you injure someone in an accident. No one person would receive more than $25,000 from your policy.
The $50,000 per accident is the most the policy would pay for all people injured in an accident.
The $10,000 for property damage liability is for things you hit. So, if you hit a car, light pole, house, fence, etc. it would pay damages to repair the damaged property, not people.
While this coverage is the minimum required by law you can always purchase more. We do encourage you to do so when you can afford it as it will provide you better protection if you when you have an accident.
The state minimum required coverage will be your least expensive option but will also not give you coverage to repair your car or truck if it’s in an accident. If that doesn’t matter and you want the cheapest Washington auto insurance then you can choose this option.
